Disability Insurance Saved the Day
A medical mystery could have cost our client...
“You know those people who are like, it won’t happen to me? I always said that…until I started feeling weird and couldn’t figure out why. It wasn’t Covid or anything. But I had tingling in my hands and feet for a few weeks, and figured it would go away if I took it easy. It didn’t.
A few weeks later, I could barely walk and then had trouble breathing.
When I went to the emergency room, they had to keep me overnight to try and figure out what was happening. My doctor diagnosed me with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Who’s ever even heard of that? I had to have immunoglobin therapy and all kinds of blood therapy to get things back to normal. And that treatment knocked me out, let me tell you. I could barely walk for weeks. There was no way I’d have been able to work.
But I had a disability insurance policy, thanks to my insurance agent who recommended one after I bought life insurance. It didn’t cost very much, about $40 per month, so I figured why not get it. I never thought I’d have to use it! Take it from me. Get the policy – you’re better safe than sorry.”

Hint: It’s not what you think
Would you be surprised if I told you your most valuable asset isn’t your house? Or your 401(k)? Think about what helped you get that house and fund that 401(k) in the first place - your ability to work and generate income. Your ability to earn a living is what supports your family. If you weren’t able to work, what would happen to their quality of life?
What If You Got Sick or Hurt and Couldn’t Work?
Imagine how your life would change without a paycheck.
When you think about being unemployed, you probably imagine a situation like a layoff. Or maybe quitting one job to take a better one. But there’s another scenario you probably haven’t considered: experiencing a disability. Now, in addition to paying all the regular bills, you also have new expenses caused by your sickness or injury. Physical therapy, transportation, in-home help, new job training…it all adds up. In fact, as many as 62% of bankruptcies in the U.S. stemmed from medical expenses.*
“It Won’t Happen to Me.”
Is this your first reaction?
No one wants to think they’ll experience a disability. We get it – it’s an uncomfortable topic that’s easy to sweep under the rug. But these CDC statistics** point to a different outcome:
- 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. have some type of disability.
- 1 in 4 women have a disability.
- 2 in 5 adults age 65+ have a disability.
Sure, it’s possible you won’t be one of these statistics. But just in case, take a moment to think about what your life might be like with a disability. It’s hard, isn’t it? And if you’re having trouble thinking about it, imagine how hard it would be to live with it. The people in these videos are here to tell us exactly what it’s like. We don’t have to imagine it – we can see it and hear it from them.
This playlist lets you see what it’s like to move through the world with a disability.

It’s your safety net if you become disabled.
Disability income (DI) insurance pays you if you can’t work due to a qualifying disability. Your policy will replace your income up to a percentage of your old salary, usually 60% or 65% (it varies by state). That money can keep a roof over your head and food on the table while you heal, adjust, or make a transition.
One great benefit of an individual disability policy is that you can transition to a different type of work and still get paid. This isn’t the case with government disability benefits, for example. Let’s say your job requires you to use your right hand. But if you suffered a disability and could no longer use that hand, what would you do? With a DI policy, you could get a job that only required you to use your left hand – and your policy would keep paying you for that right-hand disability.
People with disabilities represent the largest minority in the world. About 15% of the world’s population^ will experience some kind of a disability - making it a 1 in 6.6 chance you’ll need this policy.
Why worry about what might happen…when you can protect yourself and move on with confidence?
Assurity Simplified Issue: My Recommendation
I recommend this particular policy because it’s faster and easier to get covered than ever before.
- Easy application – just answer a few simple questions
- Fast turnaround – you’re covered in days, not weeks
- No medical exam – their simplified underwriting means there's no in-person exam, but there may be a phone interview, if needed
- Total and partial disability payments – you get paid whether you're fully or partially disabled
If you're between the ages of 18 and 59, you qualify!

Meet the Team
Christine Orris Team Lead “I’ve been in the life insurance industry for 25 years. In addition to life insurance, I’m also experienced in disability and property & casualty insurance (home & auto coverage). I especially enjoy helping my higher risk clients find the best possible coverage. The whole purpose of buying life insurance is to protect the ones you love! After hours, you can find me camping, gardening, hiking, boating, and spending time with my wonderful husband, two children, and fur babies.” |
Debby Strouse Insurance Advisor “I have 17 years of experience in the life insurance industry. I come from a teaching background, so my favorite part of this job is being able to teach someone who’s new to life insurance. I explain that life insurance is for protection. It prevents families from the financial trauma of losing a loved one so their focus can stay on mourning. My mother passed with no insurance, and we had to sell her things to pay for final expenses. I really do care about helping my clients and I don’t want them to go through that. When I’m not at work, my grandchildren and my kids are my world.” |
Tammy Walde Insurance Advisor “I started in the insurance industry when I was still in high school. Shortly after, I obtained my license and I’ve been helping families with their insurance needs ever since. No one can truly predict the future. But life insurance means you and your loved ones can prepare for the loss of income. I have a client that wanted to set aside money for his daughter’s wedding, if he was not able to be there. That brought me to tears. When I’m not helping clients, I love fishing in local rivers and lakes. Everybody can see me coming with my pink fishing jacket.” |
